The S5e's fingerprint reader lives inside the side power button rather than under the glass, so we carefully transfer and recalibrate that button flex to keep unlock working. We also tackle the swollen 7,040mAh battery that bows this thin frame, heat-lifting the glued cell and resealing the aluminum back without warping the shell.

Is the Tab S5e fingerprint sensor in the screen or the button?

It's a capacitive sensor built into the side power button, not under the glass. When we replace the S5e's display or housing we transfer that power-button flex and recalibrate it so fingerprint unlock keeps working.

Why does my Tab S5e bend or creak near the middle?

At 5.5mm the S5e is Samsung's thinnest tablet, and its aluminum frame flexes under pressure, which can crack the laminated AMOLED from behind. We replace the panel and check the frame for the bends that caused the break.

Does the Tab S5e take an S Pen if I'm fixing the screen anyway?

No — unlike the Tab S4, the S5e has no digitizer layer and supports no S Pen, so a screen repair is just the touch-AMOLED unit. That keeps the S5e display swap simpler than its pen-enabled S-series siblings.
