About this repair

The iPad mini 2 was the first mini with a Retina screen, a 7.9-inch 2048x1536 panel at 326 ppi driven by Apple's 64-bit A7 chip. Like the original, its display is non-laminated, so the front digitizer glass lifts off separately from the sharper, more fragile Retina LCD and can be replaced on its own. We also rebuild worn Lightning ports and swap the aging 6471 mAh battery that tends to swell on these 2013 units.

What is different about repairing an iPad mini 2 versus the original mini?

The mini 2's Retina LCD is far higher resolution, 2048x1536 versus the first mini's 1024x768, and more delicate, so the panel itself is a more involved replacement, but the glass is still a separate replaceable layer like the original.

Can the cracked glass be fixed without replacing the Retina LCD?

Yes, if the Retina panel underneath still displays cleanly with no lines or black spots, we replace just the digitizer glass and reseal it, leaving the 326 ppi LCD in place.

Does the iPad mini 2 have Touch ID?

No. Touch ID arrived on the mini 3 a year later, so the mini 2's home button is a plain button with no fingerprint sensor to recalibrate after a repair.
